Our coaching team has refined this course over about ten years. It starts with gentle walk/jog sessions and builds to running 10K by the end. Along the way you’ll get advice on footwear, nutrition and kit, and stretches to help avoid injury.
Sessions run from the clubhouse on Beldams Lane, using the club field and local off-road tracks.
Dates
The 2027 course is likely to start in April 2027, with exact dates confirmed later in the year. Sign-up opens in November 2026 and places are first come, first served.
Is it for me?
It’s ideal if you’re a complete beginner, returning after a few years away, or a Couch to 5K graduate. To start, you should be able to power walk for 30–60 minutes and jog for a minute without stopping. Sessions get longer each week, so you’ll need to practise 3–4 times a week.
Already comfortable running 10K? You’ll probably get more from joining the club and coming to our regular coached sessions.
What’s included
- the full 10-week course, coached by UK Athletics qualified coaches
- talks from experts on a range of running topics
- full club membership until the end of the following March
- club events and regular coached sessions
- guided Wednesday summer runs towards Hatfield Forest
- a “10 Weeks to 10K” technical t-shirt
- discounted bar and meals after each session
What do I need to wear?
Nothing special. You don’t need running shoes straight away, as early sessions are short. We’ll talk kit in the information sessions.
Who leads it?
England Athletics qualified coaches and leaders — many of whom joined the club through a beginners course themselves.
After the course
Join the regulars on Wednesday social runs, followed by food and a drink in the clubhouse. The next goal is the Takeley 10K in September, alongside your fellow beginners. From there, you can move into any of the club’s running groups.
